The Bauges massif is a limestone massif of the French Pre-Alps between Savoie and Haute-Savoie that culminates at an altitude of more than 2,200 metres. Its remarkable wealth of fauna and flora has given birth to the Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park, the ideal site for hiking, nature escapes, discovery and adventure.
Even if the Bauges massif has only modest canyons, the most interesting of which is the Devil's Bridge, very narrow and deep, which allows canyoning for experienced practitioners, the fact remains that in the region, there are many gorges that lend themselves to the practice of this activity for all levels.
For example, near Chamonix there is the Balme Canyon, accessible to all with professional guides who will provide you with equipment and directions to follow the route, which is dotted with jumps and natural slides in a magnificent natural setting. Still for beginners, in the nearby Chartreuse massif, the Grenant canyon offers a route in a beautiful setting with small waterfalls and jumps that will delight the whole family.
A spot for canyoning in the Hautes-Alpes is the Acles Canyon, which offers you a descent with refreshing waterfalls in gutters and natural slides.
For adrenaline fans, Gorgette and Craponoz Canyon will be the ideal place for a dizzying session with its two broken more than a hundred meters to descend in spider thread for even more sensations. What a thrill for the most daring!
The Bauges massif is a tourist destination in both summer and winter. There are several ski areas such as Savoie Grand Revard with alpine and nordic ski slopes, but also Aillons-Margériaz.
More than 300 kilometres of marked trails criss-cross the massif and delight hikers in all seasons. Several interpretive trails will introduce you to the tannins and coolers of the Margériaz, the Creusates peat bog or the Chéran Islands.
You can even go paragliding or speleology in the many underground cavities of the Bauges such as those of the Revard plateau.
For lovers of old stones, the Bauges massif is also full of small historical and cultural treasures. In its picturesque villages you can admire beautiful barns with columns, racks or racks, bread ovens, oratories, washhouses.
And if you decide to spend your holidays in the land of the Bauges, you will certainly not be bored since several beautiful cities are nearby: Annecy, Aix-les-Bains, Chambéry or Albertville, ski resorts or thermal baths that offer so many activities that you will have only the embarrassment of choice!
