Former hunting reserve for the kings of Italy and located between the Alpes-Maritimes and the Alpes de Hautes Provence, the Parc du Mercantour is now part of the national parks of France. No less than 6 different Valleys make up this national park. We find the Roya and Bévéra Valley, the Vésubie Valley, the Tinée Valley, the Haut-Var and Cians Valley, the Ubaye Valley and the Verdon Valley. Thanks to its surface area, the Mercantour Park offers many different landscapes and allows visitors to do several activities to discover all its wonders.
Divided into two distinct parts, the heart of the park and the membership area on the outskirts, Mercantour National Park offers many outdoor activities whether you are with your family, alone or with friends. It should be noted that some of these activities are only possible in the peripheral zone of the park in order not to disturb the fauna and flora present.
For hiking enthusiasts, the Mercantour Park has about 1700 kilometres of marked trails, 500 kilometres of which are located in the heart of the park. You can also do these hikes with guides. The different itineraries will allow you to observe the fauna and flora from every angle, you could meet wild animals or flowers that you had never seen before. Mountain bike tours are also available outside the heart of the park. They will introduce you to the different villages located in the Mercantour Park. It is also possible to ride through some parts of the park on horseback during horseback rides.
If you are near Guillaumes and looking for thrills, try bungee jumping from the Bride Bridge! Or do a paragliding experience from Pra Loup station, and admire the park from the sky.
Within the Park, whitewater activities are also available. These are done exclusively in the park's membership area. Thus, it is possible to canyon in the Lance Canyon near Colmars les Alpes, in the Maglia and Roya Canyons near Breil sur Roya. On the Roya, you can also kayak-raft and hydrospeed. On the Tinée, find rafting to experience a maximum of sensations!
In the Vésubie Valley, in the Lantosque Canyons, go via ferrata to discover breathtaking landscapes!
In winter, head for the ski resorts! The Mercantour park has 5 of them: Auron, Beuil les Launes, Isola 2000, la Colmiane and Valberg. For those who don't know how to ski, take advantage of your stay there to take ski or snowboard lessons! You can also find ski touring to discover the park when it is covered with its snow coat.
The Mercantour park is very diversified in terms of landscapes. The Valleys of the Wonders and Fontanalba are two of the park's most important sites. There are many rock engravings. Today, it is one of the largest rock carving sites in Europe. Other must-see places to visit include Lake Allos at an altitude of 2200 metres, the upper Boréon valley and its larch forest, the upper Gordolasque valley, the sanctuary of the Madonna de Fenestre and the Lacs de Vens. You won't have time to get bored!
