Composed of 4 departments, the Lorraine region takes its name from the King of the Francs Lothaire II. Located in the east of France, this region is the only one in France to have borders with 3 other countries (Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg). Lorraine is a vast playground ideal for multiple outdoor activities, thanks to its rich natural heritage. From the Vosges mountains to the forest plains of the Meuse, passing by the lakes of Meurthe-et-Moselle and the ponds of the Moselle, the region offers superb green landscapes.
You can enjoy outdoor recreational activities such as canoeing, paintball and archery. These are ideas for outings that you can do with the whole family! Take a few hours of altitude while flying in a hot air balloon or parachute jump. Let the wind take you above diverse and varied landscapes and enjoy the view, the moment and the surrounding calm. On your return to earth, visit the pretty towns of the region such as Nancy, Metz or Epinal and taste the local products! You can't leave without tasting a quiche lorraine, a mirabelle plum pie, a rum baba or a queen's bite! You can visit Nancy, its famous Place Stanislas, its palace of the Dukes of Lorraine, its aquarium and its park of the Nursery. In Metz, the Pompidou Museum of Modern Art, the flea market, the imperial district and Saint-Étienne de Metz Cathedral will open their doors to you to reveal their treasures! The cathedral has the largest Gothic glass roofs in our beautiful country. For nature lovers, the natural areas of the department will be happy to welcome you for a hike, a bike ride, a horse ride, a pony ride or even a donkey ride! The three large natural lakes and their water sports centres offer a wide range of refreshing activities ideal for hot summer afternoons. Fishing at Lake Gérardmer, sailing at Lake Madine in the Woëvre plain, pedal boat at Lake Longemer near the town of Xonrupt or scuba diving at Lake des Corbeaux, there is plenty to do in summer. The most sporty can practice rowing, stand up paddle, windsurfing or canoeing and children can enjoy water slides and other water games on the region's bodies of water. Lorraine is one of the most wooded areas in France and its vast forests are ideal for leisure activities such as orienteering, treasure hunting, tree climbing and zip lines in the adventure parks! Lovers of strong sentation will opt for bungee jumping and adventurers will be able to learn about survival training. More than a walk in the woods, learn to be in harmony with nature and use its resources to manage in complete autonomy Between two sporting activities, enjoy a moment of relaxation with the whole family during a well-deserved break in the picnic areas! Karting and minigolf will be perfect to keep the children busy during the school holidays during your stay in Lorraine! If they like animals, take them to the St. Croix Animal Park. It is a zoological park with more than 130 species, mainly European, in the heart of the Lorraine Regional Nature Park.
History lovers can take a step back in time by visiting the many remains of the Great War. Indeed, the Verdun battlefield was the scene of clashes in 1916 during the First World War and many museums in the region trace its history. Memorials, military cemeteries, and historic sites full of emotion are worth a visit. The Lorraine region offers activities for young and old in the heart of nature, something to please everyone!
